October 23rd, was time again for MADD! That’s “Make a Difference Day” when we are offered help in our church garden. Ten AmeriCorps NCCC volunteers spent the day weeding, clearing two garden paths and mulching in our community garden. The young men and women were very polite, appreciative and hard working. I was interested to find out that they all were from different states and had just become a team two weeks ago! AmeriCorps NCCC is a full-time, team-based national and community service program for 18 to 26 year-olds. The teams, ranging between 8-12 members, have a specially trained Team Leader who resides with the team. Each team is allocated funds for expenses and has a 10-month term of service. The team members who worked in our garden said they are off the Boise, Idaho next week for a 6 week service project. What a great service they provided to us and will to others!
